Project summary

The main objectives of the project are to increase the cultural tourism and exchange the cultural-related information between the North Karelia and the Republic of Karelia, provide the new information for tourists and enhance tourism services and contents. The availability of information will be enhanced e.g. by placing the information of area’s cultural- and historical tourist attractions into a one joint portal, and publishing event calendar and cultural tourism brochures in Russian and Finnish annually. Releasing the new information also requires a better inventory of cultural and historical attractions and an analysis of what kind of supply and products are needed in the area. The project will develop two mobile applications for increasing the cultural tourism. In Petrozavodsk project will e.g. advance the development strategy of tourism industry and develop the Old Corner’s tourist services.

Main activities in a nutshell

  • Collect information of cultural and historical sites and cultural events in North Karelia and the Republic of Karelia
  • Elaborate the joint marketing plans and strategies
  • Develop the new products (e.g. mobile applications) and routes for tourists
  • Create the annual calendar of main cultural and historical activities and events
  • Supports the development of Kizhi Museum’s Old Smithy in Historical quarter of Petrozavodsk
  • Develop a web-based platform for the culturally and historically orientated tourist info
  • Sing and guide the interesting places of Petrozavodsk for visual markers


The project is funded by Karelia ENPI CBC -programme. The programme is a cross-border cooperation programme implemented in the
regions of Kainuu, North Karelia and Oulu in Finland and the republic of Karelia in Russia. The key objective of the programme is to increase wellbeing in the programme region with cross-border cooperation. The programme is funded by the EU, Finland and Russia.
